OUR STORY
We started Got Dumplings on the University of Virginia's campus in 2011. The dining hall was being renovated and Aramark wanted to provide new food options to the students. They came up with the idea of a dumpling truck and were wondering if I could create a unique menu.
As an immigrant from Vietnam, I faced hardships growing up. While we may not have had the most expensive clothing, my family and I never lacked good food. It was my mother’s fantastic cooking that inspired the menu for the dumpling truck. She taught me to be critical of subtle flavor differences, which allowed me to perfect the food we proudly serve today. Though my mother passed away from lung cancer, she is with me every day when I prepare her recipes.
We create our dumplings from scratch and prepare them with traditional ingredients. My mother taught me how to create the best flavors, and that is what makes our menu unique.
The most rewarding part of this business is seeing the customers’ appreciation of our food. Students who wait in line at the dumpling truck are always so excited and grateful. I recognize a handful of students who order at the truck every day—by now, their special requests are as familiar as their faces. The biggest compliments I have received are from students who tell me that Got Dumplings’ food reminds them of home. I was walking back to my car after closing the truck one day, and a student came up to me and hugged me, telling me how special the food was and how it made her feel at home. It is rewarding to know that the students can taste the traditional ingredients we use and compare it to home cooked meals.
Along with the dumpling truck, we now have a brick and mortar store just outside of campus on the Corner, a historic strip of local shops and dining establishments in Charlottesville, VA. Stop by and see what we have to offer!

Got Dumplings is owned by sisters Phung Huynh and Kynnie Wong. Phung's husband also works in the corner store along with many fantastic workers who help behind the scenes. Whether it's hand-chopping vegetables, making freshly ground meat or preparing bubble teas, everyone's hard work at the food truck and Corner location makes Got Dumplings' food unique.
